Sample Poems by Donvan Hufnagle

Son,

I'm glad you find the journal helpful. In response to your request, I will happily speak to them, but I think it be best that you also write Bill, out of respect for his father, to inquire about sifting through all that memorabilia.

I'm quite certain, though, you fail to realize the mass of material in the yellow room. There are years and years of things. It would take days, if not weeks, to look through all.

On another note, tell me how the kids are doing? Are they excited to come to California this year? I can't believe you are traveling by train. And, oh yeah, I have presents for each of the kids coming your way. The gifts are just care packages, things for them to have something to do while on the train from Fort Worth; they should arrive in a couple of days.

Love,
Mom

Mom,

I received the other journals. They are just as informative. The later years, though, from when Rose passed, every other entry writes about his sadness. Again, he writes about all. He even writes on the day of her death:

1995, Thurs.-"The End." Mom passed away about 10:30 AM. Bill, Jackie and I went to Nursing Center. He looked peaceful & at rest.

I always wondered why he called her Mom, too? Do you think he felt bad about leaving the family business and his sister, Edna? I wish I started this project before he passed. I hope Bill and Jackie will be able to tell me more stories and such about Bill's dad.

Lori and I plan on spending at least two to three days digging though the room. I wrote Jackie and Bill, and they say it will be a great thing for me to go through the archive.

Love,
Donovan

Uncle Bill and Aunt Jackie,

As you know, the family will be traveling to California for a few weeks this summer. We are taking the train as Francis did almost 100 years ago. Wow, how amazing is it to think I will be taking the same trip as he did. Though, I am already married and have kids. But his trip was a defining moment in his life; he left everything to be with his true love. And they lived together in California for like 70 years. Amazing.

To the point, I would like to visit you as well as spend some time in the archives. Would it be possible to rummage through the museum for my project? It will be nice to see you. I have been away for too long.

Love,
Donovan

Dear Donovan,

We would be happy to have you visit, and I think Francis would appreciate, be ecstatic about you writing about him. So, of course, you may go through the room. As I am sure your mother has told you, the room is a bit unorganized, so it will be quite a challenge to find whatever you are looking for. But you are welcome to anything you want.

I think he wrote about the trip, too. I remember seeing some notes on how wonderful the trip was to him. He was always detailed in his writing. You may be able to find those notes.

Tell the kids we love them.

Love,
Jackie
