Falling Asleep at the Circus, Poems by Katrin Talbot

Watch out or you’ll end up in my poem is something you can say to your companions, but not to a wildfire, a radish bunch nor the spider who lightly explores your arm. Falling Asleep At The Circus by Katrin Talbot is filled with arrivals and departures, intentional and unintentional. The title poem is based on a true story and colours the poetry collection with hues of the unexpected.

Sample Poems by Katrin Talbot

“It’s no surprise that Katrin Talbot (also a classical musician) writes with an ear for the music of words—‘The night winds are/giving the curtains a/wild spin on the dance floor.  Nor is it surprising that Talbot (an accomplished photographer) writes with a keen eye for detail that both frames and amplifies—‘Sunset in Kansas/goes on for galaxies’. But reading these poems by a window, then looking up from the page, you may well be surprised to discover, rising from what you thought was ordinary stillness, ‘The swell of inference/howling’, which is only one of the many rewards of reading Talbot’s Falling Asleep At The Circus. Her poems are gifts of close attention quickened by imagination, gifts we feel fortunate to carry with us a long time after.”—Max Garland

“I have nothing noteworthy to say about these poems by Katrin Talbot. Would you add a daub of color to a Monet or an extra note to a Beethoven symphony? Ridiculous. With a photographer’s eye, a musician’s ear, and a poet’s sensibility, Talbot has once again demonstrated how our best poets make of themselves ‘a highway to / another world.’”—Ron Czerwien
